Catch Up: Journeying to Argentina and Around Horie

Sorry we haven't had a blog update in a while; there have been quite a few public holidays and unexpected illnesses interfering with our normal schedule.

Our inquiry into journeys and homes has been progressing well; the drop in temperature has let us get out and start exploring Horie. We have been going to more distant parks, such as Triangle Park, Minami Horie Koen, Amadaike Koen and Takakiyabashi park. We have been adding the routes to our map, learning the driections to them and debating their various merit.

We also had a chance to talk learn about homes (and caves)in Argentina while we were preparing for ICF. the kids really enjoyed all of the arts and crafts involved in making our own mini La Boca and Cave of Hands.WE also learned to Tango and did a lot joint activities with the Grade 4 class.

Maps and Charts

Last week we started looking at different maps: we pieced together a large world map and found some familiar countries and continents on it, started making globes, painted UK flags (that's where Peppa Pig is from!) and did a cut and glue activity to put furniture in different rooms of a house.

We have also been listening to music from different countries. The German band Rammstein is a particular favourite:

On Friday we had our first home visits! Andy and I went to Yoshino, Yuna and Emika's houses. While we were there we made maps and took pictures in different rooms.

A new addition to the classroom this term are our sticker charts; the kids are earning them by being balanced with their language use when speaking with their friends. We will be sending them home for you to see at the end of each month and I encourage you to discuss them with your child and reward them for any growth and improvement.

WEEK TWO (AUGUST 24-28) Hello everyone!  Our second week came to pass very quickly . The kids got used to our new routines. As you can guess...
